Wimbledon
Those that know me, know that I'm a huge Manchester United fan, but I also watch other sports occasionally and today obviously was the final of Wimbledon: Djokovic, who was recently kicked out of Australia, against bad-boy Australian player Kyrgios, who is known for his wild parties and romps.
The game was enthralling but as we watched on our screens, we also saw many shots of different celebrities, who had come to watch the match, in the crowd.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is basically a simple marketing trick.
Once you see those celebs at the match, you become interested in being part of it the next year, buying tickets in the hope that you might have a chance of being next to fame. A chance perhaps of bumping into a celeb, who will say hello, or the opportunity to give an elevator pitch and maybe gain their interest and make new connections.
For those that don't know what an elevator pitch is: imagine you go into an elevator and the CEO of a company is there beside you as you travel up the floors. You have 15 seconds to get him or her interested enough in your product to want to hear more and to learn more about it.
A few months ago, I was invited to a party at the Israeli Embassy in London.
Now to get to London from Manchester is a two and a half hour train + tube ride. Train fares in the UK are not cheap, but I knew there will be powerful and connected people there who can help me. So I went and networked and worked the room, passing out business cards and schmoozing. As a result, several people wanted to explore possible collaborations and a UK A-lister celeb is now following me on my socials and wanting to meet up with me. This is a network that could eventually be used in my favour.
The lesson is if you have an opportunity to go places where even if there's a slight chance you'll see someone with fame or connections, you should always take that opportunity as you might get the chance to change your life.
Congrats to the winner of Wimbledon 2022, Novak Djokovic!
