Hotel Hell
In my previous blog, I updated that I am currently visiting in Israel. I booked my flight and hotel together in a package deal.
I landed Thursday at 6am, had meetings and university all day and then at about 11 pm, I arrived at my hotel.
I checked in and was told I had to pay extra for VAT. I entered the room and was shocked at the poor lighting, the dirty carpets, the walls were peeling and there were garish red curtains on the window, making it look like a prison cell.
I contacted Expedia, through whom I booked the package, and they said to speak to someone at the front desk.
I went to sleep and following day I went to the front desk and asked how I can speak to either the manager or the owner.
A young man there said he was the manager. I told him about the state of the room and he answered something which shocked me, "You get what you pay for!"
He told me they would clean my room, so I went out to volunteer and afterwards to visit my parents. I returned to the room and got dressed and went out for Friday night dinner at a friend's place.
I returned after midnight, with stomach problems and went straight to sleep.
The following morning, I slept in and woke up to discover that the room had definitely not been cleaned: there was someone,s hearing aid and a kipa on the floor and dust everywhere!
I called up Expedia again and they spoke to front desk who agrees to give me another room. So I enter the new room; better lighting but definitley not properly clean as there was a strong musky smell.
I also had another situation where I got into a taxi for a short trip. I asked the driver how much and he said 70 shekel (around £20).
I said impossible, where's the meter? He replied, "I never put it on!"
I answered if so, the law is I can give you 12 shekel. He refused to allow that, locked the door and started traveling away!
I told him that's kidnapping and I'm calling the police so he rang them, when he understood from the conversation that the law was on my side, he returned me to my destination, complaining that I was stealing from him and his family.
Really who wanted double the price on a trip?! The thing is if he would have given a decent price in the beginning, I would have given it to him, but by overcharging, he lost out.
Just like that hotel lost out. I won't be staying there again!
Always be fair with others and they will treat you fairly.
