Newcastle
Yesterday, I went to Newcastle for a meeting that unfortunatly didn't go well. Because I wasn't sure at what time the meeting would end, I booked a hotel for the night. I took the train to Newcastle and upgraded myself for 10 pounds to first class for better seats and free drinks and snacks. It was a great journey.
When I entered the hotel to check in, the first thing I noticed was the smell of paint.
"Yes, we are renovating," said the clerk and asked me for a 10 pound deposit for the key card. I went up to my room. It was a small room and I could smell the paint from there. I went to use the facilities and suddenly, the fire alarm went off! I jumped up and ran downstairs to the lobby.
"Oh, don't worry, we are doing a fire drill!" said the clerk. I went back upstairs and every few minutes the alarm went off.
My sensory issues went into overload.
I checked out and booked into the Holiday Express instead. There the room was great and I felt a lot better.
I went to the meeting, which as I said wasn't so great and afterwards I took a bus to Gateshed.
My Mother has 3 siblings in Gateshed, so I went to visit my Mothers sister, Judy, then my Aunt and Uncle Shalom and Rochy, who also are related to Esther, my wife, so it's double relations, and finaly my Uncle Danny and Rochy.
I haven't seen them for years, so it was good to see them and catch up.
I went back to the hotel, had a bite to eat and went to sleep.
This morning, I woke up and had a shower, great shower head and good stream of water, went down to breakfast with good food and plenty of options. I checked out of the hotel and went shopping in centre of town. From there, I went to a coffee shop to meet my friend Gary Spedding, a true peace activist and someone I admire for his activism despite having a hard life.
I upgraded my train back for just 5 pounds. Smooth journey.
My meeting didn't go well, but at least I had a good time.
